Challenge
ESPN is one of the world’s leading sports media brands. The company serves nearly 600 million users globally each month, with a presence across 130 countries and territories.
ESPN's Fan Support team maintains sixteen help centers, serving both fans and the AI agents who support them. Four months into a manual review, the team had worked through 35% of the content, and the remaining backlog was projected to take more than a year. Pages were going stale faster than anyone could read them, with stale content, broken links, and regional guidelines that contradicted one another.
ESPN’s legal team set a clear bar for going agentic: any agent could answer only from ESPN's own published knowledge. That made the corpus the product. Every stale page was a wrong answer waiting to be served to a fan, and putting an agent on top of it was a direct legal risk for AI-generated responses.
Solution
"We knew our knowledge base needed a total overhaul, but our team was already at capacity. Human Delta stepped in to automate the heavy lifting and quickly established a high-quality 'clean-room' knowledge base — the perfect engine for our new agentic tools and a huge win for our human support teams."
— Fortune 500 Operations Leader, ESPN
ESPN partnered with Human Delta to run the knowledge behind its fan support, and to keep it true as the AI agent that answers from it went live. The year-long backlog cleared in eight weeks.
Human Delta connected to ESPN's Zendesk help centers and public support sites, reading all 25,000+ articles across sixteen help centers. Within the first week it had an evidence-backed graph of every page that had expired, broken, or drifted out of line with the others. Action Agents work on top of that graph: they fix what can be fixed at the source and route ambiguous issues to ESPN's team, scaling human-in-the-loop review across every change before it goes live.
With the AI agent live for millions of fans, the same connection now reaches the conversations themselves. Human Delta reads what the agent actually said, surfaces the escalations that keep recurring, and flags where the knowledge falls short. When fans keep asking a question no article answers, it suggests the new content and drafts it for ESPN's team to approve. The Human Delta platform stays a living source of truth for ESPN’s AI agent.
That is the corpus ESPN's first customer-facing AI agent runs on, and it is just the beginning. The same approach is set to extend across ESPN's other support bots as they go generative. The target is Delta Zero: no gap between what ESPN's agents say and what is true.
